Resources Overview

Our list of service providers is divided into three sections: crisis service providers, employment programs, and legal services. This list is not exhaustive and we will update it periodically. If you would like your organization or publication included on this list, please email us. If you would like more information about these services or eligibility for services, please contact the provider directly using the contact information listed.

The crisis service providers can help youth who are homeless or without other basic needs such as clothing, food, healthcare, and counseling. The youth employment programs listed provide job training and job placement services for youth; many of those listed specialize in working with young people who have been involved in the criminal justice system. The legal services portion provides links to organizations that help connect low-income families find an attorney, and organizations that provide direct legal services.

The publications section contains information regarding youth’s basic legal rights in a number of areas, written in a way that is easy for youth to understand.

The cost to incarcerate one youth in a New York City youth detention center is $588 a day - which comes out to a staggering $214,620 a year per child
