Services Overview

All Youth Represent staff members are experienced youth advocates, able to address the host of social, psychological, and economic problems that court-involved youth often face.

Each lawyer carries a caseload of no more than 30-40 clients at any given time. Although we represent fewer clients (most public defenders carry a caseload of 110 clients at one time), we provide in-depth representation in both the criminal and civil contexts, which traditionally require more than one attorney. More importantly, Youth Represent provides representation in areas where young people would not otherwise have counsel.

We provide legal representation in Criminal and Family Court when a young person has been accused of committing a crime. We also provide Civil Legal Representation when a young person has been denied employment, suspended from school, or denied housing or threatened with eviction due to their court involvement. In addition, we have a number of programs that help young people return to their communities and advocate for policy changes that improve youth’s chances for success.
